Pixel Monsters

Monster Project, Freelance Work
I was looking on the toon boom job site when I saw someone looking for a 2D artist. his name is Lars Petersen. He offered me a job in creating sprite animations using a combination of toon boom and photoshop. From my art style he liked the strange animals based around the world of Shell and Paddy. Bizarre animals led towards a freelance work. I thus will be animating each of these 10 cute animals that will suddenly turn into a hideous monster:
This art work is an old one back in 2010 where i drew a cute fluffy animal suddenly turns into a grotesque monster. This is what my contact has asked me to do, each cute monster will turn into something like this. He wants it for an iPad.
The best part is I can get paid just by animating monsters from my own art style.
This is a test of what my contact wants me to do. Slightly reminds me of the Pokemon battles, except that when cute monster turns into horrible monstrosity, the opposing monster runs away.

Looking forward to the Holidays

Been doing some more drawings during my work on the shell and paddy project. Here is one where I randomly drew four vegetables. You may recognise the potato from my 11 second club animatied video
So I drew a positive tomato, a nervous potato, a wacky cauliflower and a negative carrot.

You'll also be happy to note that the rough animation of the episode "bath-time trouble" of shell and paddy is NEARLY COMPLETE! Were are almost done animating and and soon will enter in the voices, looking for sound effects, maybe from the music guy I found.

And, to wish you all happy holidays as its soon Christmas...sorry I mean Decemberween!

Random drawings during Tuesday Lectures

After watching much Adventure Time and finding someone else in my course liked it a lot, i figured of drawing myself again, but with more facial features.

Here is an old idea for a shell & paddy episode. I may have written this in a list already but not sure. This one is based on the "whack yer mole or weasel" game.

Paddy Sleeping, and Shell decides to annoy him, with something hot and fiery

Rough Story idea (Shell &Paddy)

Thought up of another episode idea for Shell & Paddy. This one features Shell going up a tall rocky slope, (he will pull the top down for exaggerated law of gravity defiance) and pummels Paddy with rocks. Wear a helmet Paddy or should I say from the nearest animal you can grasp one from.
These two images above are what would be a bizzare animal, stuck to the rock with a helmet upon its head. See how the body becomes stretchy it becomes when you remove its helmet.

Shell & Paddy: bath-time trouble episode animated roughs

Getting a start on the Shell & Paddy episode of "bath-time trouble" I made two animated roughs to get myself started. And I am glad they work and I have the main character animation. (Any comments would be apriciated) I can get started on doing other roughs or see if possible I can ask others from the BA course here in bournemouth to help, but woth my MA program and I dont exactly know how free are the other students...might as well see.

Benn talking to Joseph Hill last night who is still improving on the backgrounds and will help me develop roughs as well through Drop Box. Good system too.

Here are the videos:

Here we have Paddy being introduced in this shot as he spots Shell and sneaks off scren towards our little hero.

This one is when Shell reacts to Paddy's surprise. The gag here is that as he is having a shower, he covers himself up with a leaf like a towel. Wouldn't you quickly grab the nearest thing and cover yourself up if someone was to surprise you while you were bathing. (It was Joe's Idea)

Concept Artwork for Sci-Fi

Someone on Deviant asked me if I could come up with some concept designs of specific creatures for a small indie company called Blazing X games. The project is a sci-fi third/first person shooter about rebels the military and aliens fighting it out. The rebels attacked the military causing riots and chaos, later aliens arrived and attacked the humans

Skezzer: An alien with a small cocoon shaped like body and has a massive wing span. It comprises of two large sets of wings to give it greater flight and distances

I was thinking of James Cameron's Avatar at first because many of his aliens feature four winged flyers. However I was looking at a different science fiction show for inspiration, “The Future is Wild" where flying fish, walking squid and four winged birds are a possible outcome of our planets evolution.

Here is a Giant worm, although unfortunately I am missing a few details of this one. The worm is just a rough that I ams till working on. I like drawing giant space worms for a reason. Tremours. Watch that movie.

This is what I am really pleased of because I looked two animals for this one. I looked at the movement and shape of both a dog and a tiger. I even looked at a book called "The Art of Animal Character Design" by David Colman which helps one understand the drawings and character of animals. I looked at the form and shapes of how this artist drew animals from observation.

Relic cryn - A robotic/cybernetic Hunter. I liked drawing this quickly on paper because of the armour plating and cybernetic coils and cables going through the machinery. I normally don’t draw machines anymore, not since I started drawing transformers and then stopped because it was a waste of time. I just somehow like the final design, imagining this machine prowling across a wreckage or post-apocalyptic world then once it’s found the scent of prey, just starts running like mad over long distances without tiring.

Project Deep: more rough animating

I started drawing a rough run cycle for the bad guys scene (yes the third one is missing) using Toon Boom Harmony. Its really a useful software for drawing traditionally on the computer. I wonder its so dam expensive.

Derek Hayes asked a small edit on this video previously. A longer stretch of the leg wen turning the corner

Project Deep: Making a start on the animating

I asked Derek Hayes for some feedback of the project and grateful enough to get a start on some rough animating

This is of the main character, featuring in a black and white, silent cartoon scene.

Some small news of Shell and Paddy

Finally I have got my scanner and it works! Now I can scan my images and put them on the web. Here is some small news for Shell and Paddy. Backgrounds are well under way: (they will feature in this upcoming episode). These were sketched from the story board, coloured and improved upon by Joseph Hill

Next is a small update to the animatic/story-board of the episode "bath-time trouble": This change is when after Paddy sees an empty pool and turns his head left, we see the shot where Shell is running away from Paddy, still carrying his wash brush.

And finally, some small doodles I made in a note book. These images would be used for maybe two episodes that I have in mind. I have several idea of what to do and its good to either write them down or draw them.
